The first task was to transcribe each of the letters into individual text documents and save them as PDFs.  If the text has already been digitized, performing Optical Character Recognition (OCR) on the scanned document may produce automatic results.  However, cleaning up these results may be just as time consuming as manual typing.  Type fonts from the 18th century use a letter "s" that is recognized by software as an "f."  These can be difficult to spot during cleanup.
